The Brief

Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) is looking for influencers to create photo, video and vlog/blog content about our Autumn Sustainability Season, which launches this October with two major events – the opening of Waste Age: What can design do?, a major group exhibition from the Design Museum, London, and the return of MAC’s family-friendly Big Green Weekender festival.

The season offers lots of chances to engage with sustainable activities and discussions around the climate emergency. Highlights we would love to get content on include:

Waste Age: What can design do?
Sat 26 October 2024 – Sun 23 February 2025, open daily 11am – 5pm

MAC is delighted to announce it will be presenting Waste Age: What can design do? – a leading exhibition from the Design Museum, London as part of its Sustainability Season. The exhibition focuses on work by a new generation of designers who are rethinking our relationships to everyday things – from fashion to food, electronics to construction, and even packaging. It urges us to find the lost value in our trash, to imagine a future of clean materials, and to consider how a circular economy could point a way out of the Waste Age.

Culture Shift Symposium
Fri 25 October, 1-5pm

Tying in with the launch of the major exhibition Waste Age: What can design do? at MAC, a leading panel of experts will join the audience to imagine a greener sector – questioning how we make and deliver art, interrogating established practice and exploring circular practice and economies. Join us for stimulating discussions, knowledgeable voices, practical tips and takeaway ideas as we try to imagine a sustainable future together.

MAC’s Big Green Weekender
Fri 25 – Sun 27 October

Everyone is welcome to this family-friendly festival celebrating creativity and local action for our shared planet. Join us for a lively weekend of repair cafes, toy and clothes swaps, live music, short films, inspiring talks and an arts sector symposium focused on the climate emergency and sustainability. Programme highlights include a fruit and nut seed planting workshop, the Friends of Cannon Hill Park history walk. Performances include physical theatre group Highly Sprung and the MAC Makes Music house band Switch. Reverend Billy and The Stop Shopping Choir will bring a cloudburst of live musical energy to MAC’s foyer (free, drop-in).

Rubbish Redesigned: Innovative Designers from the Midlands
28 Sep 2024 – 2 Mar 2025

An exhibition delving into the rise of circular design and waste innovation across the West Midlands, curated by design researcher Sarah King. This showcase highlights the creative uses of common waste materials, such as orange peel and cow manure, addressing the pressing need to reconsider how we utilise our planet’s resources.

MAC is able to reimburse up to £60 in travel expenses for up to three people and offer free entry to the Waste Age: What can design do? exhibition.
